Children of the Night
Canis lupus
Introduction
Where Wolves are concerned you may be thinking that humans should be like the people in Star Trek, following a creed of no interference when natural selection comes into play. I might agree with you if the extinction of the Wolf was the natural order of things, but it's not. We can't deny that the demise of these creatures is our fault. If it wasn't for our fear, our lust for progress and yes our boldly wanting to go where no one has gone before! The Wolf would not be in the tenuous position that it and many other animals are in today.
Humans seem to have an almost insurmountable drive to try and conquer/control nature. Something has to give, and ultimately you know what's going to beat us? Not the much maligned Wolf, but an itsy bitsy little virus!
And remember, the next time you're watching a horror film with a Werewolf in it, it wasn't until the Wolf was crossed with a human that it became a salivating out of control killing machine!

Basic Information
Wolves used to be one of the most widely distributed mammals next to humans. They're very adaptable and could inhabit most terrain's that have enough food to support them. They can attain speeds close to 50 MPH if needed, but generally travel closer to 5 MPH over long distances.
Wolves are intelligent and social animals and many adults will help take care of the young when needed. They communicate using sound, body language and scent and maintain group cohesion with a hierarchical system of order. The heads of which are the Alpha male and female. Like most other wild animals, Wolves try to avoid people whenever possible, even when in a pack. Although they will defend their territory against other Wolves, a dispute which is usually settled with an intimidating display of teeth and growling.
It is now believed that dogs originated from a single Alpha female and even today canines display instincts, to a lesser degree, similar to those of a Wolf. Not only has this beautiful creature given us some of the best friends we've ever had, they are an important part of the natural order of things which we do precious little to preserve! The last thing we should do is destroy the Wolf - We do so at our peril!
I no longer have the current URL for Lady in Black's website. If you know what it is please let me know. Email:
